Thursday September 4th 2008 saw De La Rue and 4C fight off tough competition to win the Award for ‘Most Improved Purchasing Operation – Start Up’ at the prestigious Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) Excellence Awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
The award was presented in the company of a record audience of 1200 procurement professionals. It is the fifth time that 4C have won with their clients in as many years.
This award recognised De La Rue and 4C’s capacity to develop a business model that introduced a centralised Procurement function with well-trained people aligned with De La Rue’s business needs, a strong productivity culture and a robust governance model. Their ability to gain stakeholder buy in and their procurement expertise created credibility within the De La Rue Group and has driven record levels of productivity leading to group-wide efficiencies in the first year.
Leo Quinn, Chief Executive of De La Rue plc, said: “The increase in focus on Procurement and Supply Chain within De La Rue has allowed us to dramatically reduce our cost base and improve our competitive position. The benefits derived from improved structure, processes and spend visibility have translated into better value for our customers in a very competitive marketplace.”
Andrew Loken, Managing Partner & Director of 4C’s Outsourced Procurement Services said, “We’re delighted that our client’s outstanding strategic vision has been recognised by CIPS. Getting quick traction and building momentum in the first 12 months with a Procurement Outsource is notoriously difficult to achieve. Many large organisations struggle with the idea of “insourcing” expertise on a flexible basis, and relying on the relationship with the Outsource provider to make it work. The De La Rue implementation has been a real success story.”
Andrew Vaughan, Purchasing and Supply Chain Director at De La Rue added, “We’re thrilled that this initiative has been recognised, particularly as its success is a result of some excellent team work between the in-house De La Rue procurement team and 4C.”
Other short-listed entries for the award included DSG International, Procurement Lincolnshire, Sony UK and Colliers CRE.
