BACKGROUND

STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) is a government-funded, industry-led programme sponsored by the Department for Energy and Net Zero. It aims to demonstrate the commercial viability of fusion energy by building a prototype plant to deliver a consistent energy supply.

4C was chosen to support day-to-day commercial and procurement capability and lead the work to develop supply chain solutions.

the challenge

The challenge was to establish a new entity, UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS), as a functioning Intelligent Client while ensuring the right commercial processes and partnerships were in place from the start. With critical procurement activity on the horizon, the organisation needed both immediate operational capability and a framework that could scale with the programme’s ambitions.

SOLUTION

4C worked alongside STEP’s team to establish the new entity and lay the groundwork for upcoming procurement activities.
